Wine Selection - May 2021

May 2021

This month, we've gone with a diverse theme with wines from both Australia and Italy. Particularly excellent this month is the Allegrini – La Bragia IGT, which we'd suggest saving for a good BBQ or dinner! Another interesting wine this month is the Batasiolo, a dry Spumante. Very easy to drink (with more people asking for an extra order!).

  • Batasiolo - Pinot Chardonnay Spumante - Human experience, tradition, research and technology: these are the founding values of the Batasiolo winery, the millenary art of wine production becomes contemporary excellence. A bright, fresh chardonnay with an aromatic bouquet of peaches and nectarines. The palate shows juicy fruit flavours of citrus and white peach, complemented by hints of soft, spicy oak.
  • Alois Lageder - Pinot Grigio IGT Dolomiti - Brilliant straw yellow with a green shimmer. This wine has quite a pronounced and expressive aroma with flowery and somewhat spicy notes. Rich flavours in the mouth, with a slight smokiness at the back and a good, fresh finish.
  • Velenosi - Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC Classico - Floral scents of honey and fruity scents of apple and peach along with hints of cut grass. Confirmation of fruity, floral and vegetal scents on the palate.
  • Allegrini – La Bragia IGT - Drawing on more than six generations of Veneto winegrowing tradition and an unwavering focus on quality, the family received its 30th Tre Bicchieri (“Three Glasses”) award from Gambero Rosso in 2014, placing it among the top producers in Italy. This wine is hard to find. Recently only the 2016 vintage has been available, making it all the more special. The grapes are sun dried after harvest, concentrating the fruit flavours.

  • Xanadu - Exmoor Shiraz - Deep red with garnet hues. Blackberries and raspberries with fragrant floral notes spiced with hints of liquorice, tar and subtle toasty oak influences. Full-bodied, yet controlled, this Shiraz displays ample depth with plenty of inky forest fruits; blackberries, redcurrants and spice. Perfectly approachable in its youth, this wine will age comfortably cellar for several years.

  • Batasiolo - Barbera D'Asti Sabri DOCG - Our second bottle from Batasiolo this month, this Barbera is dry, full of remarkable freshness and structure, in line with the vineyards tradition. Intense and long-lasting aftertaste. We recommend paring with pasta and risotto, red and white meats, and ripe cheeses.

Subscription costs 4,500 THB per delivery, equating to just 750 THB per bottle and a saving of around 1,200 THB based on purchasing six similar bottles in a supermarket.
