Wine Selection - October 2021
October 2021
Another month of travelling around the world, with different grapes from different countries such as Italy, Australia, Chile and Spain, and a special highlight; “Condado de Haza” the best Crianza in the world!
-
Cavicchioli - Rosé Spumante - Tasting of summer, and among the top 3% of wines in the world! The Cavicchioli 1928 scores a solid 4.1 on Vivino, and is bright pink sparkling with an almost “candy-like” colour. It is fresh and fruity; sweet, slightly spicy and aromatic taste with red fruit notes.
-
Xanadu - Exmoor Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon - Several important critics have rated this Margaret River wine highly with Decanter World Wine Awards gave the 2019 vintage a score of 90. It's an easy drinking and refreshing classic Margaret River wine offering a lively palate of freshly squeezed citrus flavours, tropical fruits and a touch of quince. Crunchy, fruit driven, lip-smackingly dry with a crisp clean finish. A ‘drink now’ style best consumed while bright and youthful.
- Tenuta Luisa - Pinot Grigio DOC - One of the more sought-after wines from this region, this Pinot Grigio is reminiscent of acacia blossoms and ripe tropical fruits. On the palate it is fruity, silky, soft and round with an elegant long-lasting finish. Perfect as an aperitif or with light pasta dishes, starters, ham, fresh cheese, white meat, eggs, vegetable dishes and seafood.
-
Santa Helena - Varietal Merlot - This is one of the most popular wines from the region, this red showcases the classic magic of Chilean wines. It is Intense red with violet tones. Fresh black fruit, such as blackberries in
aromas. Balanced and medium-bodied, pleasant finish. Very gentle tannins, a very friendly, drinkable wine.
-
Vigneti di Zabu - Nero D'Avola IGT - Having won several awards, this Nero D'Avola is deep ruby red in color. Fresh and unoaked; the plummy flavours of this wine are preserved by the wine making. A soft, supple wine made in a modern style.
-
Condado de Haza - Crianza - A regular in Wine Spectators Top 100 wines, this Crianza's black fruit aromas come to the fore. Subtle floral notes, such as violets, come through with hints of liquorice, a characteristic trait of the Tempranillo grape. Also roasted coffee-bean notes emerge, together with touches of vanilla brought by the wine’s ageing in barrel. Length of flavour is medium to long, with a creamy, sweet sensation coming from the wine’s ageing in oak. Great with roast suckling lamb, suckling pig and semi-matured cheeses.
