Wine Selection - September 2021

September 2021

For September, we're going to help you discover both Old and New world wines in more ways than one. With wines from "Old World" countries including France and Italy, and "New World" wines from Australia, as well as some vineyard debuts and some Siam Wine Club mainstays - we've got the perfect mix of great wines to drink at home after that 9pm curfew!

  • Batasiolo - Moscato Rosé - Scoring 4.1/5 on Vivino, this sweet, sparkling wine treat bringing perfumed aromatics and bursting with the fresh flavours of strawberry pie, peach cobbler, nutty desserts, or summer salads that are a little lighter on the acidity. Serve well chilled to keep the bubbles and flavours at their peak.

  • Lungarotti - Pinot Grigio IGT - Thanks to the hot summer – it was the second-hottest year on record, globally – this 2019 Lungarotti Pinot Grigio dell'Umbria is a brilliant wine. It is made from 100% Pinot Grigio grapes. The wine is yellow in colour with greenish reflections, with a delicate bouquet of herbs, hay, wild mint and pistachio. It is dry on the palate, with a pleasant softness, fragrant acidity and long finish.

  • Montrouge - Chateau La Gravelle White Bordeaux AOC - Commended in the Decanter World Wine Awards, this white Bordeaux is blended from the three classic white-wine grapes of Bordeaux: Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. The 2018 vintage is slightly on the harder side to find now. Best paired with meaty and oily fish.
  • Fattoria le Pupille - Pelofino Rosso IGT - Awarded 93 points by
93 by Bare Go’ Mad, and a Siam Wine Club members favourite, this rich and intense red wine is coupled with fine cherry, ripe raspberry, forest fruits on the nose, and crisp and juicy on the palate. It is uncomplicated and very drinkable, with light tannins in the finish.

  • Little Yering - Little Yering Shiraz - Well known, and awarded 88 points in Wine Enthusiast, this spicy, brambly fruited Shiraz is from one of the Yarra's longstanding producers. Aromas of tangy fruit, cocktail bitters, dark chocolate, black olives, dried violets and an earthy funk are followed by an equally spicy palate. The oak can be felt here, as can the alcohol with the chalky savoury tannins and forrest-berry fruit add plenty of personality and charm.

  • Mount Langi Ghiran - Vine Rd Shiraz - A great quaffer; the Vine Rd is a strong - dark and slightly purplish - wine with an aroma of blueberries, ripe cherries, blackberries and chocolate. Is it juicy, soft, and almost silky with notes of coconut and black pepper, meeting the expectations of a wine from Grampians cool climate.
